Rule:1.       One of the + plural noun (subject) + singular verb.

Example:  One of the mangoes is rotten.

 

Rule:2.       Each of/ Every of/ Neither of/ Either of + plural noun (subject) + singular verb.

Example:  Each of them was given a prize.

Either of the boys has done this task.

 

Rule: 3.       Sub + used to+ verb. Base form.

Example:  I used to play.

But, sub + be/get+ used to+ verb.ing.

Example: I was used to swimming.

 

Rule: 4.       A number of + plural noun+ plural verb.

Example:  A number of students are getting A +.

But, The number of + plural noun + singular verb.

Example:  The number of boys  in mosque is less than that of in the stadium.

Rule: 5.       Many a + singular noun+ singular verb.

Example:  Many a boy goes there.

But, A Many +  plural noun + plural verb.

Example:  A good many boys go to school everyday.
